Fiskars Tree Pruners - Fiskars Pruning Stiks
If you’ve ever had to pay to have a tree pruned, you know that the investment in a good tree pruner is one that will pay off handsomely in a single session of trimming. While a telescoping pruner can’t do everything that you get with a professional tree trimming job, you can do a surprising amount from the ground or a short ladder.
When you look at a telescoping pruner, there is always a tradeoff between the length of the telescoping pole and your ability to weild it effectively. At some point you are just limited by the fact that you have a huge lever on your hands and there is only some much leverage that you can have. So we take a loof at a couple of different sizes of tree pole pruners offered by Fiskars, featuring the Fiskars lifetime guarantee.
Fiskars Telescoping Pruning Stik
This is the longer of the two pruners. This unit telescopes to slightly more than 12 feet, with an aluminum inner pole that fits inside a fiberglass outer pole. With this length and the use of a stepladder, you can reasonably get up to 20 feet above the ground.
The cutting head of the pruner can be activated with a rope or the unique sliding handle on the pole. The cutting head can be rotated 240 degrees which makes it much easier to get the right cutting angle, and the jaw size makes it possible to cut branches up to 1-1/4 inches in diameter.
This also includes a 15-inch Woodzig saw blade that can be used to cut branches somewhat largert in size.
The unit gets pretty good ratings on Amazon. One thing to note is that this is not a powered pruner. Because of that it’s limited to pruning branches of 1-1/4 inches, which is the primary limitation of this pruner. But the lack of power also results in a somewhat safer and lighter design.
And as with many telescoping pruners, when they are extended you can get some flexing that makes it slightly unweildy. This is more of an issue when you are trying to use the saw blade, but this is common to telescoping pruners. Take a look a the reviews on Amazon and see if the Fiskars Telescoping Pruning Stik is the right pruner for you.
Fiskars 62-Inch Pruning Stik
This unit has a similar cutting head on it, but is not nearly as long. For those who might find the longer Stik too heavy or unweildy, this is a great choice. Of course, it won’t reach as high, but it’s easier to handle, and lighter weight as well.
The 62 inch pruning stik also features the sliding handle that avoids the use of the rope for activation. The head on this pruning tool also rotates 240 degrees, so you can reach almost anywhere.
This unit gets great reviews on Amazon as well, so take a look and see if the Fiskars 62-Inch Pruning Stik #9234 is better suited to your pruning needs.
