Childrens Garden Tools - A Look at Kids Garden Tool Sets
Children naturally want to help you in the garden. Whether its fumbling to help you plant a few seeds, or pulling weeds after a spring rain, or the excitement of picking Sugar Snap Peas or Sweet 100 tomatoes and eating them right there in the garden, they love to help out. With their own garden tools they can work with them better, and they will identify with the whole process too. Besides, it’s just fun to watch them with their miniature tools.
One very popular set is the Kids Garden Tool Set from Toysmith. This set includes four tools, two rakes, a small shovel, and a hoe. This set can be found for around $25. The tools are about 28″ in height and have loops in the handles so they can easily be hung for storage. At this size they can be used by children as young as two years old, but are stronger than the small plastic sandbox type tools.
If you are looking for hand tools for the kids, there are a number of popular sets. The Little Farmer Garden Tote has 7 pockets and handles for little hands. This set has a shovel, spade and and a rake. They are steel with wooden handles, and a matching watering can comes with it, and are for ages three and up. Note these are hand tools. You can find it for around $15, and is good for getting down and working in the garden soil. Toysmith makes a similar Indoor Garden Tool Set
that includes a trowel, rake and shovel, but no watering can
Another great idea is a small wheelbarrow. There’s a number of these available, including the Radio Flyer Wheelbarrow. It’s only about seven pounds, and the Radio Flyer people have been making children’s toys for decades, so the details like the finish on the handles and the curled edges of the metal are all done with your child in mind, and can be used by children ages two to four. John Deere (nothing runs like a Deere!) makes a similar wheelbarrow for children as well.
It’s always a great idea to get your children involved in gardening, and a set of children’s garden tools that they can call their own helps get them excited about helping in the garden.
