Fiskars Axe - A Quick Review of Fiskars Axes and Hatchets

Fiskars has a number of axes and hatchets that fit a variety of tasks for the homeowner. Here we take a look at a few of the more popular models of Fiskars axes and see which might fit your needs the best.

The Splitting Axes are sized more like an axe to make them easy to use, but are capable of splitting wood like a maul. The Super Splitting Axe has a 4.25 lb head, while the Pro Splitting Axe has a 2.25 lb head. The Super Splitting Axe also comes with protective carrying case that covers the head.

Pro’s - Very sharp, cuts extremely well. The combination of the lighter head and shorter handle make it quite easy to use, and people of smaller stature can wield these axes quite effectively.

The face can be used as a sledge, and the flared end of the handle makes it easy to hold onto while swinging it.

The handle is Nyglass, and is molded around the head so it won’t fly off easily.

Cons - Most people aren’t used to the shorter handle. While this is part of what makes it so lightweight and easy to handle, the shorter handle can cause you to nick your shoes/ boots if you don’t set up with care.

The lighter head will not quite do the trick for large logs. If you have been using a large maul to split very large logs, it won’t replace that.

Short handle not suited for taller people, can come up short on the swing. Not unique to Fiskars, but is an issue with any short handle axe.

Look at the reviews on Amazon. Seldom do you see such a large percentage of positive reviews. The only negative comments are on the small handle, as people not that it takes some getting used to it.

The smaller axes and hatchets all have similar reviews. Fiskars axes and hatchets almost all feature coated heads so they stay sharp and don’t rust, and the heads are molded onto the handles so they don’t fly off after some use. The handles are made from Nyglass, which is a nylon/ fiberglass compound that is much stronger than wood, even old hickory, or even most composites.
