Garden tool sets make a great gift for the gardener on your list, or can be good way to get started gardening. What are the garden tools you want in a tool set? You can find garden tool sets in a wide range of offerings. Simple 2 or 4 piece kits, with or without a holster. These go on up to 15 or even 40 plus piece kits, usually in some type of case, ranging from simple plastic cases to fine wooden vintage cases, which make a great gift. You can find a range of handle materials for these tools as well, starting with plastic in a variety of colors, but the better tools will either have a wooden handle or some type of conforming solid foam for others.
Most any garden tool kit will have some of the basics tools. There will be a garden trowel, that tool that looks like a small shovel on a handle. This is used for many chores, from preparing a spot for transplanting seedlings to digging up stubborn weeds by the roots. This is the tool that will reveal how much you spent on the tool set, as a cheaply made trowel will easily bend when digging out a deep root since the tool is simply stamped from a sheet of metal, while a good tool will be cast in a solid piece to hold up under the digging action of an enthusiastic gardener.

One other very handy tool for most gardeners are pruners. Most tool sets will include a bypass pruner which is the most commonly used type of pruner for most gardeners, as it easily handles small jobs like pruning flowers or vegetables like tomato plants, and cuts cleanly with the bypass action that is similar to a scissors action.
A small hand fork is a good addition. These are useful for small weeding jobs around established plants, and will do a good job of cultivating the soil.
Another common tool is a bulb planter, which looks like a narrow trowel, which is used to dig a small but deep hole for burying your bulbs at planting time.
And for the garden tool sets that have more than just a few pieces, you can get a fairly complete set of tools that also include things like watering nozzles, shears, pruning saws and more.
